As part of our 20 year anniversary celebrations, the Caboolture Montessori School partnered with multi-disciplinary artist Amelia Kalifa to create a collaborative and interactive artwork called Hive Mind.
Throughout Term 2 2018, the whole school community was invited to participate in workshops to contribute to the artwork. Each participant created beautiful leaves and flowers out of wire which were woven together into vines. They then recorded their answers to two questions:
- When you were younger, what did you wonder about?
- When you’re older, what do you hope for yourself?
Using clever interactive technology, visitors to the artwork are able to listen to our community’s voices simply by touching the wire flowers and leaves. The artwork has overtaken the school library, growing up the walls and even onto the ceiling.
All members of the school community are invited to visit the library and explore the artwork -simply ask at reception next time you are at the school. We have also created a digital time capsule which you can explore below. We hope you enjoy tuning in and listening to the diverse experiences and stories that connect our community.
The Hive Mind project at the Caboolture Montessori School was proudly supported by The Song Room and was made possible by the Queensland Government through the We Are Queensland grants program in 2018.

Listening to the Stories
This web page has been created as a digital time capsule and serves as an online record of the project and all the stories that were shared. The images show participants holding their creations and each audio track contains a number of stories and perspectives for you to consider. The images and audio are presented in random order, reflecting the sense of discovery and anonymity offered by the original installation. Simply click on a track to listen.
