The Montessori Great Stories – A Message From the Principal
Welcome to our Montessori community!
As the new Principal, I’m delighted to share with you the wonder and significance of the Great Stories — foundational narratives that lie at the heart of the Montessori curriculum. These stories are not just tales; they are invitations to explore, imagine, and connect with the world in meaningful and joyful ways.
The Great Stories are designed to awaken a child’s curiosity about life, the universe, and humanity. They provide a broad framework through which children begin to understand their place in the natural world and in history. Each story is rich with wonder and encourages deep thinking, connection, and a love of learning that goes far beyond the classroom.
As your Principal, I have seen first-hand how these stories light up young minds. They spark questions that lead to inquiry, investigation, and authentic engagement. They take students on journeys from the beginning of the universe, through the evolution of life on Earth, to the development of human cultures and societies. These narratives allow children to construct meaning and purpose, forming the foundations for scientific thinking, creativity, and empathy.
In our classrooms, teachers bring the Great Stories to life using hands-on materials, rich discussions, and opportunities for students to pursue individual interests. Whether a child is captivated by the origins of the solar system or fascinated by the diversity of life, the Great Stories provide a lens through which learning becomes personal and profound.
These stories do more than inform; they empower. They help our children grow into responsible, compassionate, and curious global citizens. As educators and parents, it is our privilege to nurture that spark — to foster environments where children feel safe to wonder, explore, and grow.
I encourage you to engage with the Great Stories alongside your child. Ask questions, revisit the narratives, and enjoy the discoveries together. Learning in the Montessori environment is a shared journey — one filled with awe, connection, and joy.
Thank you for being part of our learning community. I am honoured to walk alongside you and your children as we continue this exciting path of discovery.
Warm regards,
Luke Bartlett
Principal
