2024 Term 3 - Pelican Class
The Pelican children enjoyed sharing a morning tea with the other Early Years cycle 1 classes. They all had a great time getting to know one another’s soft toys that were brought in. There was also a bit of dance afterwards. What fun!
The Pelican children had a fun afternoon baking some brownies!! A lot of love and attention went into creating their afternoon tea and it was enjoyed by all!
Well done Pelicans!
2024 Term 2 - Pelican Class
During week 7, the Pelican Prep students participated in a ‘RAW ART’ incursion. The work shop enabled students to learn about various art processes while working at completing an art piece. The students learned to draw and paint a Koala and Joey in a tree. They discovered special techniques with pencils, markers, acrylic and watercolour paints and oil pastels. They worked in groups, listening and following the verbal instructions and visual example. Some wonderful ‘Masterpieces’ were created during this session and the children all learned some new art skills and had fun in the process! Well done Pelicans!
The Pelican children have been practising going over the rickety bridge and balancing logs in the big playground. They then walk around the playground to avoid the crocodiles in the water. They are developing great balance and upper body strength when hanging from the rope. The Pelicans got to #moveitmoveit!
Some of the Pelican children helped clear the weeds out of the garden patch in preparation for planting some seeds and seedlings. They were very excited to don the garden gloves and get pulling and raking the weeds out of the garden. It was very satisfying for them to see the end result.
2024 Term 1 - Pelican Class
The Pelican students participated in Harmony Day on March 21st. Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. They learned about being kind, courteous and patient with one another. They found out that the colour orange was the official symbol for Harmony Day which traditionally signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. The Pelicans had lots of fun during this special day.
During Term 1, the Pelicans embraced the Easter spirit by participating in a colourful Easter bonnet parade. They marched around the school, proudly displaying their colourful creations. They also enjoyed an Easter hunt! With Easter baskets and hunt sheets in hand, they scoured around, searching high and low for hidden treasures. Once all the items were found, of course they sampled some of the Easter eggs and used the ‘Egg-Grabber’ to pick out their favourite ones! No wonder Easter is one of their favourite times of the year! Well done Pelicans!
The Pelican class has welcomed their new students and everyone is settling-in well to the classroom. The children are diligently making work choices using various Montessori Materials found on the shelves. Each of these materials corresponds to curriculum requirements; one single learning purpose per material so that children can focus deeply on the concept they have chosen. The favourite ‘Practical Life’ activity of the week was preparing and eating Dragon fruit! Yum! Keep up the great work, Pelican students!
2023 Term 4 - Pelican Class
The Pelican children have been following a Christmas tradition by making their own gingerbread cookies. They participated in making the dough and then rolling it out, using the cookie cutters and after they were baked, they got to decorate and eat them!! YUM! A lot of time and effort went into their culinary creations and fun was had by all!! They also recently enjoyed a visit and story from Yvonne.
2023 Term 3 - Pelican class
In Term 3, the Pelican class had a number of new friends start. They settled in to the routine and began learning lots of new things!! What a special energy and enthusiasm they bring to the room. Welcome!!!
Also the Pelican and Sea Star classes got together with their teddy bears and had a picnic!! Getting together with another class gave everyone the opportunity to develop communication skills between themselves; where they can talk with a child from another class, introduce themselves and their teddy bear. The children all got to play in together after the picnic. A lot of fun was had by all and hopefully some new friends were made.
2023 Term 2
The Pelican class were introduced to Van Gogh through his paintings of “Starry Night” and “Sunflowers.” They have been interpreting his paintings by firstly painting a “replica” one and then trying one on their own with the original as a template. There have been many different interpretations of his work!
2023 Term 1
The Pelican children loved the Harmony day celebrations on the last day of Term 1. There was a great parade, the parents shared where they came from and then they helped their children make Dream Catchers. A yummy morning tea was shared. Lots of fun was had by all. Thank you Parents for attending.
At the end of Term 1, the Pelican children participated in some Easter related activities. They had a great morning hunting for some very special Easter items. These included Easter Eggs, an Easter Pencil, a sticker, a hanging-egg and Plaster of Paris Easter painting item. On the previous day they made an Easter cone to place their Easter treasures in. After the hunt they used the ‘Grabber’ to pick-up an Easter egg and found an another egg inside which they got to eat! How yummy, and what fun! Happy Easter from the Pelicans and enjoy this time with your families.
Term 3 with the Pelicans
In Term 3, there was great excitement when the huge orange excavator (not digger lol!) rolled off the truck bed outside the Pelican class. All the children were given the opportunity to go outside and watch it roll down the road towards the hardcourt. When they learnt the excavator was going to dig up the hardcourts we had to go and experience this historic event! Everyone was extremely excited and loved watching the big “mouth” tear up the court and place it on the big truck!!! They got to say “bye bye” to the hardcourt and are all waiting in anticipation for the next step with our hardcourts!!!
In August, the Pelican children participated in the Cross Country run and ran through the bushland on the school grounds. All the children had a great time and enjoyed running alongside their friends.
The Pelican students were very excited to attend a drumming session. They were able to participate with the various instruments and dance along with the music. We had a class of children concentrating and participating with rhythm and enthusiasm.
The Pelicans also attended a talk on keeping safe when digging by Diggity. They all learned some important information that hopefully they have shared with their parents!
Also last term the Pelican children attended the Colour Run with their parents. That was lots of fun!
Well done Pelican students!
Term 2 with the Pelicans
For Anzac Day, the children helped make the Anzac day wreath and Vincent and Violet laid the wreath on Anzac Day.
Later in the term, the Pelican children made clay handprints for Mother’s Day. Their handprint was cut out of the clay, they then stamped a design on the handprint, painted and wiped off oxide (colour of their choice) and then clear glaze was applied. They were fired in the kiln twice and then an everlasting gift was made for their Mother. What fun they had. The process took a few weeks so that everything was ready on time. There was a lot of positive feedback from our lovely Pelican mothers!!
Well done Pelicans!
The Pelicans wish you a happy Easter!
Before end of term, the Pelican children had a lovely Easter egg scavenger hunt!! They paired up with a Prep and a Kindy and went on a search around the school looking for clues e.g. Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! Can you find my sweet home! (Yes, it was a bee hive!). Each Kindy student opened the envelope and the Prep “read” out the clue !! Well, we had many a keen eye spotting the next clue prior to it happening. We will have to be a little more crafty next year when hiding them! Each child received a surprise egg and Remi kindly brought some Easter treats to share with her friends also!! Everyone had a great time co-operating together, sharing, taking turns and looking after their buddy.
The Pelican children also practised their ball skills together and continued learning to cooperate, collaborate, share and take turns during their games by sharing a number of balls amongst each other. They also practised their relay skills by passing the ball to another friend and then going to the back of the line (a lot of thought is required for this)!
Well done Pelicans!
The Pelicans welcome you to 2022
Cooking and baking is a much loved activity by the Pelican students (and teachers!) and 2022 is no different for these Early Learners. Yummy Cupcakes!
In term 1, the Pelicans had a lovely time travelling around the different countries in Cycle 1 during Multicultural Day. They visited the Netherlands, China, New Zealand and their own state of Queensland-Australia! During their visits to each class they had an experience of the culture and diversity found in each country, from different clothes, languages and foods! What fun they had while flying around!
To finish off the term, the Pelican children went to see a production by Renata to learn about the seasons!! She was very entertaining and engaged the children throughout with her puppets, stories, songs and visual aids. They thoroughly enjoyed their time with her!
Have a great Easter from the Pelicans
The Pelicans enjoy a special incursion!
The Pelican class were so lucky to have a wonderful incursion from Geckoes Wildlife experience with all the other Cycle 1s. What a lovely time everyone had patting and learning about the animals. There were a number of animals and Martin the presenter and owner showed the children a little Bettong, a Carpet Python, a Tawny Frogmouth, a black green tree frog (he stuck to the window and then started sliding down!!), a Shingle Back Lizard and a Bearded Dragon, a Long Necked Turtle and salt water Crocodile! They all got to pat a Tasmanian wombat called Bumpy and she was so content to allow them all to stroke her head! The children all had an incredible experience and learnt a lot, some overcoming some fears around patting animals and others observing while learning.
The Pelican class have visitors!
Charlotte brought her guinea pigs – Vegemite and Pickles – in for show and share. The Pelican children were very excited about holding them and grooming them with the brush. They learnt about what they ate and how to look after them. It was a very exciting visit! Thank you, Charlotte!
The Pelicans are baking!
On Tuesdays, the Pelicans enjoy a baking class. They learn about hygiene during baking, using wet and dry ingredients, measuring, and mixing. The best part about it all is icing and eating their creations! Important life skills such as waiting your turn, being mindful of others and developing patience are all practised during this activity. Well done Pelicans!

Welcome Pelicans!
Welcome to all our returning and new Pelican (1C) families! The children are settling in and getting acquainted with the activities in the room and one another. There is a lot of exciting areas to explore this term, we are looking at the ocean, the invertebrates and vertebrates found in the ocean, land invertebrates, shells and lots of other themes that arise during the term! We are looking forward to lots of learning, exploration and fun!
Christmas Bags 2020
Our Pelican students have been anticipating opening up their Christmas bags. Each child wrote a card for their friends and placed it in the bag. Some contained little gifts like bon bons, stamps, rubbers, lollies, keyrings, bows, etc. and the teachers gave them a little gift also. It was a highly excited group that finally got to open all their treasures and see what was inside their bags. The children read the cards or had them read to them and were very excited to both give and receive. What a lovely experience. We wish all the Pelicans and their families a joyous and happy Holiday season and look forward to having the children back in 2021!! Thank you from Kathryn and Lisa.
Seed Pod Stars 2020
Pelican learners used seed pods to make a native star for their Christmas tree.
Star Wands 2020
The Pelicans were very excited to make some Star wands over the Festive season. A lot of time and energy was spent selecting colours and embellishments! Well done Pelicans!
Salt Dough Ornaments 2020
Our students got into the Christmas spirit by making some Salt dough ornaments to put on their Christmas trees. A lot of planning and thought went into the colours and decorations. They all had a lot of fun creating their ornaments!
Sunflower 2020
A giant sunflower is the focus of our Pelicans at the moment and the students have been watching it grow taller and taller over the last few weeks. The Pelicans and I have been measuring the height against my height to see the progress of the growth. It was highly exciting when the sunflower grew taller than me and finally even taller than when I had my hands above my head!! They have been observing the bud with anticipation to see when the flower would start opening up! What a day when the beautiful yellow petals showed themselves! They have watched the head grow bigger and the bees visit the centre. It has been a lovely learning experience for them. The group photo was taken on a very hot day and it is not the best, but amusing!!!
Christmas Baking
The Pelicans continued the tradition of making gingerbread people and star cookies. It was a bit different this year as we didn’t have parent helpers and had to fit all the children in during the morning to make their cookies and in the afternoon to ice them. The children had fun and thoroughly enjoyed eating their efforts. They were very cooperative with one another and waited their turns beautifully, well done, Pelican children!!
Starry Starry Night
Meg spent the day in the Pelican room and did a lovely art activity with the children. They looked at Vincent Van Gogh’s, Starry Starry Night and made their own version using pastels and black paper. They children were very creative.
NAIDOC Week
The children learnt about the importance of Naidoc week in the Pelican room. They had an opportunity to learn what the different symbols mean in the Aboriginal culture and tried some dot paintings.
