Sue
Before joining CMS, I worked for a sculptor on Hamilton Island and the Gold Coast, as a photographer travelling around Queensland and Northern New South Wales, in administration at the Eye Clinic at The Royal Brisbane Hospital, as a gardener and in many hospitality roles.
I had already obtained my teaching qualification and while working as a gardener at Grovely TAFE I read an article about Montessori Education in a Grass Roots gardening magazine. This made me contemplate getting back into teaching, and the very next day there was an advertisement for an assistant position at Harmony Montessori. I applied for the position and, as they say, the rest is history. When I first started at what is now CMS there was only the original admin building, 42 children and the site was very overgrown. I knew straight away that it was something special though, and I’ve been here in various roles ever since.
The thing I enjoy most about my work is fostering curiosity in children. I enjoy watching them develop a love of learning and engage with the Montessori materials. I particularly enjoy sharing the Montessori Cosmic Education curriculum with children.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the beach and gardening.
Qualifications: International Montessori Teaching Diploma (Lower Elementary), Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) Certificate II in Horticulture, Certificate in Permaculture Design.
